Licensed by Chongqing Government, and initiated by Chongqing
Port Administration in 1998, Gangjiu Stock Corp. Ltd (GSCL) was
jointly set up as a limited-responsibility stock company by
Chongqing Port Administration, Chengdu Railway Bureau, Chongqing
Railway Bureau, Chongqing Yangtze River Shipping Corp., and
Zhangjiagang Port Administration. It was registered at Business
Administration and put into operation on January 8, 1999.
Running through by ¡°a chain of ship, port, cargo, and
transportation¡± and uniting water route, railway, and road
altogether, GSCL focuses on passenger and cargo transport,
stevedoring, and commodity warehousing.
The stock company
consists mainly of the former Jiulongpo Terminal and Lanjiatuo
Terminal. Built in 1938, Jiulongpo Terminal has been transformed
into the largest cargo transport outlet and foreign trade port
in the southwest, which owns 7 modern well-equipped wharves, 3
large-scale open storage areas, more than 200 mechanical
devices, a largest storehouse, and the heaviest lift crane in
the inland Yangtze River. It claims a designed traffic capacity
of 3.35 million tons now. As a model unit in Chongqing, it is
enlisted as a ¡°quality transport model unit¡±, ¡°better
quality and efficient enterprise ¡°, ¡°national customer
satisfaction model¡±, and accepted into quality service system
ISO9002 in 1998. Built in 1978 and located in Jiangjin,
Lanjiatuo Terminal serves as water gateway from Sichuan to
Yangtze River. It owns 3 perennially-berthing wharves of over
one thousand tons, berth length of 616 meters, land area of 14.9
acres, warehouse area 10,980 square meters, open storage area of
13,621 square meters, leased railway of 7.7 kilometers, and over
30 port mechanical devices. It boasts traffic capacity of up to
860 thousand tons.

¡°Infrastructure Idea, Yangtze River Unity Idea, West
Development Strategy Idea, Three Gorges Project Idea¡±, the
stock company holds a crucial position of ¡°key port, key
window, key gateway, key hub¡±. After fund-raising, it is
expected that the company will expand its present traffic
capacity with additional 50,000 containers and 3 million tons
bulk cargo per year. With the planned four-hundred-ton
heavy-lift cargo operation line put into run, the company can
walk along both lines in cargo transport and passenger transport
smoothly, and thus greatly expedite economic development in
Chongqing and the implementation of West Development Strategy.
